Working out the value
The foundations of our modern society are underpinned by the work of the minimum paid, who represent the largest hidden cost from our everyday expectations. These include our demands for the immediate availability of exotic foods, seasonal recreation and continuous transportation. The differential in privilege is exposed if we pull the curtain back in the sanitised exterior of a salted bag of cashews, a smooth ski run or a car that will safely deliver us to our next destination. Behind it are the workers, under-valued and under-paid, yet expert in their occupation. This series is a snapshot of a larger body of work which aims to highlight their expertise and so acknowledge the true value of these privileges we so often take for granted.
