I live on a ranch 80 miles from the Mexican border with a herd of wild and domestic horses saved from slaughter. They are my muses and my angels. Each one has their own story of survival, from slaughter trucks headed to horrible deaths in Mexico, abusive homes, Government round ups and more. Each beauty has come to me broken, sick, starved and here at Firelight South Ranch we begin the healing process. Many of these horses here will never be able to leave as they are too damaged by humans, but here they find peace, love, and safety. I have fought for decades on behalf of humane treatment of horses and animals in general but these fine beasts leave me asleep with hay in my hair, knee deep in mud and give me so much beauty it is worth every minute and dollar we spend as it is here we get to watch them become whole again.
