Äidille
Project info

Nourished by my childhood fantasies I went back to the primal ground of my Finnish mother’s ancestors. They were immigrants from Karelia. The following quote from Kalevala, the Finnish national epic poem, resonated deeply within me as a call to go out and discover the poetry of our surroundings.

“Now run with your tears and worries, little ignoramus! You have no reason to be lost in grief and sorrow, as the sun also shines elsewhere on earth, not just in front of the window of your father’s house.“

Thus musing, I wandered through landscapes, carried along by curiosity to places where people once felt at home. The light, the fragrances, the colours, all the obvious places that present themselves in the depths of memory. Äidille is there for a universal story about the sense of places and the longing to simply be.
