From Composting to Recycling
This series of anthotypes represents a transition between my project on composting and my work on recycling.
The images are created by coating paper with vegetable juice, as a "photographic" material. I either extracted juice from elements of my compost (rotten spinash that I would crush with a mortar and pestal) or used discarded cooking water (when cooking beet or blanching red cabbage). After the paper is coated, it is exposed to sun light through a transparency with a photograph of an object from my recycle bin. Exposures varied from 1 day to several weeks. This is one of the simplest "photographic" processes, one that produces delicate and fragile images.
