The photographer Günter Standl is specialized in travel photography. His assignments take him to Spain, Italy, Australia or South Africa. Countries photographed in such a way that they border on paradise, are enticingly beautiful and awaken desires.
But what if you simply turned around, left the tourist attractions behind you and took a look behind the scenes? Scenarios off the beaten track that Standl collects on his journeys for his personal OFFSIGHTS project. With a trained eye for everything from the curious to the desolate he captures the atmospheres of remote and bleak places. His photos are reminiscent of those of Martin Parr. But with Standl, the focus is not on the person, it is on the melancholy.
