Last year, Eurostat found that almost 10 percent of Hungarian workers live in relative poverty (even after receiving state support!), which means they earn less than 60 percent of the median income. Eurostat’s figures for 2016 showed an increase of almost 2.6 percent since 2014. And according to recent OECD data, more than 10,000 persons are homeless; most of them try to survive in the capital city.
I took these images at the Christmas Day lunch for the poor and the homeless, organized by the Food for Life Foundation, in the city centre of Budapest. More than one thousand persons including families queued for warm food and drink, and Christmas presents for children. Budapest 2017.
