Panoramic New York

Panoramic New York, as the name implies, is a series of panoramic photos of New York City taken over the course of the last eight years. The selection encompasses some of the best known locations in New York City and also lesser known spots which have intrigued me over the years. Sadly some of these locations no longer exist, but the photos remain as a testament to the transitory nature of life in New York City. Panoramic photography is a difficult genre to master. The rigid format forces you to make certain compromises with regards to composition, and there is very little leeway for error. Many photographers have picked up the format and dropped it for just that reason. Once mastered, however, the panoramic format is capable of capturing astonishing detail. Working with image files gigabytes in size the photos take on a legendary quality when seen as large scale prints. That sense of immersing the viewer in the scene is really what I am after when shooting these panoramas, and I think there is no better way to convey the wonder, drama, and energy of a city like New York.
