On 12 June 2014, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS or Daesh) killed at least 1,566 Iraqi Air Force cadets in an attack on Camp Speicher in Tikrit. At the time of the attack there were between 4,000 and 11,000 unarmed cadets in the camp. Among them, Daesh singled out 1,700 unarmed Shiite forces and brutally murdered them.
According to photos and videos posted on Daesh websites, the group committed the massacre in Al-Qusour Al-Re'asiya region, one of Iraqi deposed president Saddam Hussein’s Palaces.
