The past is indeed another country
Project info

The images here are all digital photographs I've taken over the past year. Each was produced tintype filter on them and have also manipulated them in various ways.

I have a huge collection of American tintypes from the later 19th century and have always prized the tintype's capacity to "estrange" the people and things it commemorates. Human beings who appear in tintype portraits seem at once half-dead and half-alive. The past is indeed another country. I would like to convey something of that enigma.
