Over several months I took photos of disabled or chronically ill people. I wanted to show that there is more to our definition of beauty than we are told through life.
It is not only media, it is not only society that shapes our definition of beauty. It is our human nature that is suspicious about being different. Maybe it was evolution, maybe it is in our genetics. But I've got the opinion that we are intelligent and compassionate enough to leave this behind and face the true nature of one another.
Maybe I am misty-eyed, but I really believe that this true nature can be seen through my lense. It is beauty.
These photos were taken - more or less - staged, mostly by spontaneous ideas and actions while chatting with my models.
