Mosaic

Mosaic began with a trip to Valparaíso to produce a joint work with a visual artist. Our collaborative work consisted in the construction of an urban mosaic that she would develope in an specific hill of the city, and from my part, photograph the neighbors who live around where the mosaic would be located. As it usually happens, things change, and the project found new others courses. The return to our home, from the mosaic location, was each time getting longer, I found many situations between those two places, that made retain myself for a while. Finally, the portraits of that roads, it transformed in the body of this serie. As a cartography, these photographs were created from spontaneous and unpredictable encounters, generated by the own natural bifurcations of the geography of Valparaiso, and from the inhabitants who accepted to be portrayed. At the end of our journey, she finished making the mosaic, built with materials that she brought from Buenos Aires, to Valparaíso. I, from that city in Chile, toke pictures to assemble this photographic mosaic, still under construction. ___ Mosaico comenzó a partir de un viaje a Valparaiso para realizar un trabajo en conjunto con una artista visual. Nuestro trabajo colaborativo consistía en la construcción de un mosaico urbano que ella haría en uno de los cerros de la ciudad y, por mi parte, fotografiar a los vecinos que viven circundante al lugar en donde se ubicaría ese mosaico. Como suele suceder, las cosas cambiaron y el proyecto en su unidad tomó otros rumbos. Cada vez tardaba más mi llegada desde nuestro hogar al lugar en donde el mosaico se armaba, muchas eran las situaciones que encontraba entre estos dos puntos y que me detenían. Finalmente, fotografiar ese camino se transformó en el cuerpo de esta serie. Como una cartografía, estas fotografías se fueron creando a partir de los encuentros espontáneos e imprevisibles, generados por las bifurcaciones propias de la geografía de Valparaiso y de sus habitantes que aceptaron ser fotografiados. Al final de nuestro viaje, ella terminó el mosaico construido a partir de materiales que llevó desde Buenos Aires a Valparaiso. Yo desde esa ciudad de Chile me llevé imágenes para ir armando este mosaico que aún sigue en construcción.
