Inhabitants of an orphan house

Fifty-four families live in one of the houses in Gagarin Street in Beregszász: Hungarians, Gypsys, Ukrainians all together among severe circumstances. The house used to be the building of the sewing factory and its dormitory later homeless people moved in for a while after the nationalization and finally the city council rented the flats to other families in need. There is no running water or heating in the house and the roof has only recently been added. The situation of the inhabitants is quite doubtful due to the state of the house and the uncertain tenancy agreements with the local government. The house is a good example of the social situation in Transcarpathia and the reason why masses of people migrate from Beregszász and its surroundings. The series of photos was made in autumn 2017.
