A Guide To Folk Taxonomy
Project info

A Guide To Folk Taxonomy is a pseudo scientific exploration of my own fictionalized world of Appalachia through folk taxonomy experiments. Folk taxonomy is a folk biological classification, in which people describe and organize their natural surroundings. This typically includes the people of a particular region making generous use of form taxa as well as abandoning scientific classification for cultural references and self understood narratives. For example all animals that have died along the side of the road become “road kill” regardless of what kind of animal or how it died. The use of this kind of categorization is an attempt to understand the definition of “Appalachian” in a world that lives between reality and fiction.
