"Avondale" explores ideas about identity, family, and childhood by deconstructing memories and experiences and reconstructing them into fictional narratives. Influences from the idea of mythology create a universal interpretation of life's journey by utilizing the common mythological concept of the hero journey, where magical stages coincide with the main character's self discovery. Hero journeys are common in bedtime stories to epic war sagas. These narratives exist in all cultures, and therefore are universally relatable.
The protagonist of this series, Amy Avondale, is manifested through the imagination of the artist. She experiences magical and ordinary events based off non-fictional personal memories. Events include, contemplation of the transitional stages of life, collecting memories that live inside of family heirlooms and land, and the reliving of childish acts.
