nieuwe versie work, 150 woorden: The Street Portraits of Havana seem to be different from previous work. But still, these images remain being the result of trust, mutual respect and friendship. Due to originating in an urban area, they are merely situated in another theatre. The savannah village becomes a street facade.

These are images of groups of people, each consisting of separately captured portaits and local scenery meticulously mounted in huge works of art, that faithfully represent reality and daily life. But they become much more than just documentary. The personal involvement with the subjects is key to create an affective and testimonial bond with the viewer. A depiction of reality that, without using modern photographic techniques, was impossible in the past.

The Street Portraits of Havana are made during many visits to Havana, Cuba. Before I also worked in Madagascar, Sao Tomé & Principe, Ethiopia, Burkina Faso, Senegal, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Paraguay, Benin, Ghana, …
