京都の街で (Street in Kyoto)
Project info

Deciding on exploring Japan's most ancient prefecture on a selfdrive arrangement couldn't have been a better decision, especially during the cold winter season, November 2017.

My obsession with capturing the Gion’s street. I wanted pictures that did not rely on famous landmarks or cityscape that are commonly found on postcards and in magazines, and I wanted each to be focus on the peoples or happen on that moment.

In general pictures will be render in film style or cinematic colours, so it might be a bit high contrast which is different from conventional behaviour.
I have my Sony A7R2 with FE 16-35mm f2.8 GM mounted throughout my journey. I shot in both situations. Each day of this trip started around 5 a.m. to capture some landscape with sunrise, but when the heavy layers of morning fog faded, i will back to Gion. Started from 7am to 9am Gion started to be crowded with mixtures of tourists and the locals on the street.
