Shift, 1 of 1, 139 x 96 cm. Shift consists of fourteen images, made using a homemade pinhole camera, designed to expose whole 120 mm colour transparency films. The films are presented in chromatic progression, mounted and framed on a light box, with black vinyl mount - images submitted are photographs of the 1 of 1 work.
'Shift' was created over a period of ten months on a favourite stretch of beach on the North coast of Cornwall, UK.
In the morning light the duration of my exposures varies between 8 and 120 seconds, creating colour shifts on the film’s emulsion. The outcome is a unique 1 of 1, photographic object.
Presented on a light box, the 120 mm transparencies work together to draw the viewer into the horizon for closer inspection; an echo of my act of photography and an artefact of the particular atmosphere and geography from which it came.
