Grids in my work don´t only work as a metaphor. They are also literally set as a working grid. Working with grids as we do it in a 3-D constructing program. For architecture or for gaming. Or for other virtual purposes. A grid as we use it for designing a house. Or defining a body.
Something that lies underneath, often defines the representational surface. I try to give that underlying structure, the grid, a stage. A foreground. Make it a foreground. Steal the underlyingness from it. Take away its hidden character and make it perform in the foreground - or better AS the foreground itself. Its state to be underneath lost, it evolves a different character and brings other elements to the background. They get to be the background, the defining, underlying structure. They switch places and by doing so bring up certain topics on their new twisted stage.
