Allegro, non troppo

Roots become branches, black become white, as dark become light. Death turns to life, plants start to move, to dance, silence turns into music and staticity become movement. It’s the circle of life, it never ends. - I love abstraction and over time I realized that what I'm looking for in photography is the composed delicacy of sumi-e, a Chinese painting technique based on watercolors in which every form and every superfluous detail are left out. In the sumi-e the white of the sheet represents the universe, and black the material forms that appear and disappear continuously in it. A philosophy in which delicacy is not necessarily the opposite of force. I believe that delicacy is a force and not a weakness. A force made of balance, sobriety, imagination. Dreaming, fantasizing does not cease to be our right when we grow up. It is also a necessity for adults. As well as slowing down our vital rhythms, meditating, reflecting on ourselves not as islands but as members of a world where the others are not enemies but part of us. A world of which we should strive to see beauty and not just ugliness. I shoot in long-exposition, using a black background and illuminating the subjects with a flashlight. At the end I only invert the brightness, leaving the original colors unchanged. Using the lightpainting technique I can have a complete control, deciding what to illuminate and what to hide. Signs drawn with light can not be corrected: this requires concentration and practice, avoiding going over the same spot several times. These are photographs that are born to be printed on watercolor paper. It is made from linen or cotton rags that have been pounded into small fibers, instead of the standard wood pulp. This paper is opaque, with a harmonious natural grain that create a sense of depth. One color will tend to look like two because of the difference in the ways that the light strikes the peaks and the valleys. There are many types of watercolor paper and much research has also been done in order to find the one that best suits my needs and my style.
