With my project "In The Shadow of Dusk" I explore the stories of the landscape outside my hometown, in the outlying villages in northern Sweden, and the vastness of the nature in the far North. The purpose is to tie my images to current issues about Sweden’s ongoing urbanization and the decay of the countryside. With this series I want to convey a strong sense of the northern part of our country, and show how factors such as lack of work, logging and the ongoing urbanization are affecting rural areas. By photographing selected places I want to create a perspicuous overview and at the same time convey what makes the North special to me. I focus on areas where houses and barns that have stood empty for a long time are a result of the urbanization. I want to convey the romantic touch of the landscape, and at the same time emphasize the dark and mysterious power of the nature, rivers and mountains. In conclusion, I want to show how northern Sweden is a place of mystery, a beautiful place of tranquility, but at the same time frightening desolate and wild.
