Entrapped Transcendence

Photography and death are closely related to one another. The act of photographing has been compared with ‘shooting’ with the camera being the gun in this case. A photograph stealing a moment in time permanently, it turns yesterday into tomorrow by taking the memories and carrying them on so that you can always relive them. Whilst enforcing the idea of Memento Mori, the connection between the essential purposes of photography – to retain a moment – and the search for eternal youth in an effort to stop, extend or freeze time is what has led me to the creation of more recent works. By freezing and embedding different objects within water, I am showing an attempt to preserve life which humanity is always trying to achieve with the advancement of technology and medicine. The objects captured can be considered as metaphors for life. However death in this day and age is still inevitable.
