Deaf Community on the Spice Coast

A project with the Zanzibar Association for Deaf People to document the lives of their members. One of the poorest countries in the world, their deaf citizens eke out a precarious existence in the margins, while holding onto their own integrity and pride in their way of life. The cover photo was a finalist in the prestigious Lens Culture Afar travel photography 2018 awards.
