"When there’s so much darkness closing in
Just swerve around slowly
You’ll find an opening."
– Ane Brun
This series is about the experience of meeting, and living through, darkness and the ongoing search for light and energy. It is about feelings.
I chose to photograph most of the pictures under and through water because what water does, transforming and expanding how we usually see human bodies and forms. The transformations express feelings dealing with darkness, sickness, despair and sorrow, but also love, hope and openings.
“Darkness and light are constantly changing, yet always present in each other.” Barad 2007
Darkness can come in many forms, for me this series is connected to experiences when my husband got ME/CFS. He has had this sickness since 2009. Since then much of his life (and mine) has changed. The sickness steals energy and from being an active man; skiing, bicycling, etc - he is forced to spend most of his time in bed. How to deal with those transformations?
