These photographs illustrate a journey from Kyoto to Tokyo on the Shinkansen - the Japanese bullet train, which travels at speeds up to 200 mph. I made five to ten images per minute with my camera lens pressed to the window. The nearby buildings and landscapes became a blur. Only after the trip was completed was I able to observe the results. Photography allows us to experience what we cannot see and create stories from things we dimly perceive.
