High in the Andes, celebrations are an essential part of how people define themselves and their cultures. Following a tradition that started with the Pre-Hispanic civilizations, local communities hold days-long celebrations in honor of religious patrons and the elements that provide their daily sustenance, such as the land, the sun and their livestock. These celebrations have evolved to incorporate elements of different beliefs and traditions, and acquire distinctive local elements in each community. This project intends to show the human, intimate aspects of those celebrations, called Fiestas in the Andes.
