The photos in this series were taken during three trips over the past six years to the small remote Guatemalan village of Agua Zarca. Life for residents is rough and conditions are stark. There are no paved roads, few houses with running water or indoor bathrooms, and no furniture large or comfortable enough for my large soft American bottom. I love visiting, but I'm also very happy to return. On top of hard labor, long days, and few opportunities, climate changes in the past decade have brought greater precipitation during rainy season, warmer temperatures, and increased incidence of mosquito transmitted diseases. Despite all these difficulties, the people of this village are always warm, hospitable, open, generous, and joyous. I hope these photos capture the beauty I see in both the place in its people.
