These images were taken over several years in different parts of the world and are linked by the sense of narrative inherent in each one. My aim is to imbue my images not only with the excitement that I felt when I took the photograph, but also to capture the time before and after; for me they have a filmic quality. Photography is to film, what the poem is to the novel, each form being ambiguous, each implying questions : 'where from?' and 'where next?' Still photographs are the capture of axial moments, frozen in time, but being formed equally of imagined history and undisclosed futures.
As with the single image, so with the poem: the greater the distillation, the greater the intensity of significance.
