About Rolf Antonie Loch

Physicist, educator, and photographer.

"The greatest scientists are artists too." - Albert Einstein

As a teacher and physicist with a PhD in laser physics and optics, I have always been drawn to Einstein's insight that science and art are deeply connected. My photographic practice explores this intersection, seeking to reveal the hidden beauty of physical principles—light, geometry, symmetry—in everyday moments and natural phenomena. Science and art share a common language: the pursuit of clarity, pattern, and beauty in complexity.

Through the lens, I practice the attentiveness required in both experimental science and visual art: observing closely, questioning assumptions, and seeking the essential structure beneath surface phenomena.
I started with analog black and white photography in the darkroom as a cultural course at my university. Now only using digital photography, black and white is still one of my favourite types of photography.

When not behind the camera, I work as a physics and mathematics teacher, where I combine my scientific background with my enthusiasm for visual learning to inspire students.
