Sander Martens (1973) is a Dutch freelance photographer specialized in black and white portraits, landscapes, and food. After many years of attending both photography and graphic art workshops, he became a professional photographer in 2014. According to New Dutch Photo Talent/GUP magazine, he belonged to the best 100 Dutch photography talents of 2017. Having studied psychology and artificial intelligence, he obtained his PhD degree in experimental psychology in 2001, and he is currently an Assistant Professor in cognitive neuroscience at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. In both his photography and scientific research he strives to go beyond the visible. As a photographer I notice the surface details and how they represent something larger. It's actually much like being a scientist.
