Suely Torres in a visual artist working with photography, video art and collage. She studied Literature at the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). She resides and works in Berlin since 1988, where she received her Master’s degree in Latin American Studies from the Freie Universität Berlin and specialized in Art Curatorship at the Universität der Künste.
Since living in Berlin, she investigates vernacular photography as a form of communication between cultures. Her relationship with photography doesn’t stand from a technical interest, but an organic one. The camera serves a purpose, the same way a brush, pencil or any other material would. Suely looks at images from a literary stand point, her interest in images stems from how a multitude of literary manifestations are expressed in paintings, cinema, drawings and photography.
Her work with images revolves around language, as a dream needs sleep to reveal itself.
