About Tomohiko Okazaki

Tomohiko Okazaki was born in 1981 in Higashi Ward, Okayama City, Okayama Prefecture. He became interested in cameras at the age of 17, moved to Tokyo at the age of 18, and began taking snapshots in earnest. When he was 20 years old, he transferred to Nihon University College of Art, Department of Photography, and dropped out at 21 years old. He then graduated from The Photograph Institute in 2013, inspired by photographer John Sever's textbook.

His award history includes winning the Hasselblad School Photo Contest in 2001.

In 2012, he participated in the group exhibition "Art Now in Okayama". He has held traveling exhibitions at Tenjinyama Cultural Plaza, Takahashi City Museum of History, and Nagi Museum of Contemporary Art. This was Tomohiko Okazaki's first time participating in a traveling exhibition that included museums. His work on display is his current work in progress, ``Sounds of Silence.''

He was awarded the Certificate of Artistic Merit at the Luxembourg Art Prize in 2021, 2022, and 2023. In 2021, he will be Critic's Choice in Lens Culture's International Photo Competition and Editor's Pick in Portrait Award in the same competition in 2023.
