Five years ago during my classes of Art Photography at the Academy in Antwerp, Belgium came a -at the time not so famous- Bieke Depoorter telling about her trip through Russia. Also that year I saw the documentary of James Nachtwey, War Photographer. At that moment I knew that this was what I wanted to do with my photography. Helping people by telling their stories through my pictures.
This year I felt I was ready to grab my chance and I went for two, three months to Palestine. I stayed in a guesthouse in Jenin, very close to the refugee camp. I met different families and listened to their stories. I also met some freedom fighters from Hamas. I've been to special occasions where normally a normal tourist couldn't have gone to, like the annual commemoration of the Israeli attack on the refugee camp.
This experience taught me that this is what I want to do.
