Alan Wieder is an oral historian and street photographer who lives in Portland, Oregon. He taught for 23 years at the University of South Carolina and his work has included political studies of racism in the United States and apartheid in South Africa. His most recent book is titled Studs Terkel: Politics, Culture, But Mostly Conversation. Corresponding with his oral histories, he has been a street photographer since 1974. His photography has been exhibited in Cape Town, South Carolina, and Oregon; and he has published this work in various magazines and journals. In 2016/17, he has been a student in workshops taught by Bruce Gilden, Peter Turnley, and David Alan Harvey.
