Alena Kakhanovich was born in Minsk (Belarus) in1985. She graduated from the Belarusian State University, Faculty of Radiophysics and Electronics in 2008 and finished the Academy of Photography in Warsaw in 2016. Alena is a member of the Belarusian Association of Photographers. Currently, she lives and works in Warsaw (Poland).
For the past years she has been created stories about isolation, loneliness, feeling of home and its absence, critical period of self-identification, mental health issues and the state of distraction. She has decided to capture the phases of being in this period of frozenness. Alena aims to show processes happening in the inner worlds of different people, difficulties a one may face while trying to find a real “self” and coming back to an active lifestyle. The photos she makes reflects poetry of melancholy, its magnetism and beauty.
Her work has been featured in numerous exhibitions and international festivals, including the Helsinki Photo Festival in Finland, Kolga Photo Award in Tbilisi (Georgia), Month of Photography in Krakow (Poland). Moreover, she has exhibited her photographs in important art spaces such as the Kiyosato Museum of Photographic Art (Japan), Center for Contemporary Art (Belarus) and several galleries in Europe such as Galerie Huit in Arles. Alena’s works are in the collection at the Kiyosato Museum of Photographic Art in Japan.
