My name is Alexandra McNichols-Torroledo; I am a Colombian-American freelance photographer living in the USA. I have carried out assignments for the newspapers The Guardian (UK) and El Espectador (Colombia) and the TribeStar (Indiana). My current photography concentrates on issues of indigenous people and their struggle for cultural survival in Colombia and in America due to land exploitation and violence.
My work bridges the fields of artistic and documentary photography using a range of digital and alternative photographic processes. Over time my focus has shifted from a personal exploration of my experiences as a Colombian immigrant in the United States to global concerns of cultural diversity and human rights in my native country, Colombia
My work has been exhibited in Colombia, Dominican Republic and America. I graduated from Indiana State University with an MFA on Photography (2013) and an MA on Hispanic Literature (2004) and a BA on Communications and Journalism from Colombia.
