Alexis Mbassa began her photography career in 2001 documenting Seattle hip hop artists and musicians. She immersed herself the underground music scene and in 2008, self-published her first book, "Emerald City Hip Hop, Seattle". That same year she moved to NYC and continued to photograph musicians while broadening into headshots, family portrait, and commercial work as well. Her work can be scene on numerous websites, magazines, and promotional material and was most recently featured on the Netflix series, "New Amsterdam" and Pulse Films' "Hip Hop Treasures". Her second book was written with and about the late Shock G of Digital Underground and is set to be released with Crown Publishing/Random House in August of 2025. Alexis moved back to her hometown of Seattle with her family of 4 in July of 2023 and continues to immerse herself into each and every shoot.
