Avin Abbasi is a Kurdish photographer from Baneh, a city in the Kurdistan region of Iran. Holding a Bachelor's degree in Law, she began her professional photography career in 2015. Her journey into photography started in the early years of her marriage, when she learned the medium from her husband, a photography educator. Today, alongside her personal artistic practice, she teaches photography at private institutes in her hometown.
Working primarily in conceptual and minimalist photography, Abbasi creates symbolic images that explore women's lived experiences, identity, gender equality, and the invisible emotional burdens carried by women in contemporary Iranian society. Her photographs are rooted in simplicity, using visual metaphors to express complex human experiences.
Her work has been recognized internationally, receiving the FIP Gold Medal at Perspective Five – International Salon of Fine Art Photography (India, 2017), First Prize at the Kurdish Photographers Biennial in Sulaymaniyah, Iraq, for a photo series (2022), selection by the humanitarian organization MOZAIK (2023), recognition by Women United ART MOVEMENT, and publication in Women United ART MAGAZINE in 2023 and 2024.
For Abbasi, photography is not simply about creating images. It is a way of revealing women's unspoken stories—their fears, anxieties, hopes, dreams, and the emotions that often remain hidden beneath everyday life. She believes photography has the power to communicate what words alone cannot.
