About Alena Zhandarova

Alena Zhandarova was born in 1988. She holds MFA in Photography (European Institute of Design, IED Madrid, Spain). Using photography as the main instrument of interaction with the space, she creates a special atmosphere of magic, which builds on experimentation and the fresh air of ordinary things in unusual situations. She investigate the border between habitual and unfamiliar, using the visual storytelling as a tool of implementation of her inner philosophy.

The illusory nature of the external world, the study of human beliefs and social boundaries, the uniqueness of each person, the continuity and the relationship of internal space with external conditioning are the main areas of research of the author.

Her works were exhibited in various galleries, museums and art centers all around the world. For example in Fotografika Gallery (Russia), Aarhus Center for Contemporary Art (Denmark), Lumiere Brothers Gallery, (Russia), Tampere Art Museum (Finland), European Center of Arts (Germany), Centre of Photography (France), Getty Images Gallery (UK) etc. Her works were also presented during numerous photo-festivals like Cortona on The Move, Encontros da Imagem, PHeST, Copenhagen PhotoFestival, Singapore International Photography Festival, Pingyao Festival, FOCUS PhotoFestival, Kolga Tbilisi PhotoFestival, Month of Photography Los Angeles etc.
