Barbara Doran is a Sydney artist who was born in Wagga Wagga, Australia and grew up in Southern African countries Swaziland and Zimbabwe. Her concerns pivot around shifting global understandings, their values, histories and the realities they bring forth. Her artworks examine questions of personal, collective and environmental health. Barbara is particularly interested in bringing more of our whole bodies back into the rites of information transfer. Over the last ten years Barbara’s work has been exhibited in several solo and group shows. Her awards include “She” national award (winner 2009 & 2010) and finalist selection in national competitions including the Olive Cotton Award, Redlands Westpac Art Prize, the Moran Photographic Award, UNESCO Art and Bioethics Award and Sunrise Film competition. Barbara works as an artist, film and event designer and university lecturer. She has a MA in Environmental Planning (Macquarie University) and a PhD in Art (Sydney University).
