Bearing Witness

Michael Lesy has combed the collections of photographs in the Library of Congress and the National Archives and has delivered a visual treatment of our country's history. Beginning with the Civil War and continuing with the conquering of the Western frontier, on through the twentieth century with child labor, strikes, the Depression, and the World Wars, Lesy has made powerful and beautiful choices.
