Election Day

Election Day is a unique collaboration between Juergen Teller, Vivienne Westwood, former Baywatch star Pamela Anderson and Westwood’s husband, Andreas Kronthaler, and brings together images from Westwood’s Spring/Summer 09 advertising campaign. The photographs show a romp starring Anderson, Westwood, Kronthaler and rock band The Queens of the Stone Age. Teller’s mise en scène escapes precise categorisation, combining images of the protagonists in a golf buggy, Anderson reading Plato’s Republic with her nipple visible through sheer fabric, Westwood and Anderson frolicking in clothes baskets in a laundrette, and the two beaming in front of a television announcing Barack Obama’s imminent victory. The cavorting characters elaborate a bizarre narrative which highlights the hope surrounding Obama’s victory, the quintessential nature of Westwood’s clothes, and Teller’s signature style.
