Kerala: The Spice Coast of India

Kerala is a small state located in the extreme southwest tip of India. Rich in spices, it is a commercial crossroads between Europe and the Arab countries. Because of this, the region is culturally quite mixed, with Hindus, Moslems, and Christians living together. Also, the landscape is varied, since the state ranges between the Indian Ocean and the mountains. Raghubir Singh, whose previous books showed us Rajasthan and Kashmir, provides a spectacular look at the culture and landscape of Kerala and the Malabar Coast. Singh's work goes beyond the typical travelogue and shows us, in depth, the daily life of these diverse people. He is one of the best color photographers working today.
