Private Diary 1999 is Araki's ironic photographic portrait of a year to come, the edge of the millenium, time date stamped as if it had already been recorded. The near future finds the photographer wandering around in a familiar world of Tokyo neighborhoods, naked women, and cats. As always the poetry of his sequencing is mysterious, but this, his first title entirely composed of color images, is a particularly warm fantasy, optimistically ending two weeks before New Year's Day.
