Kensu Shintsubo: Kioku

Photographer Kenshu Shintsubo’s work is featured in magazines throughout Japan. His book Kioku portrays four young Japanese teen idols dressed in school uniforms. In Japanese culture, the school uniform is seen as a symbol of innocence as well as repressed desire. The portraits of these girls, Erika Toda, Yu Kashii, hanae and Aoi Miyazaki, evoke the preciousness of such innocence and an underlying fetishism.
