Florian Maier-Aichen

Maier-Aichen does not use any systematic programme, but rather tends to single out each image as a unique project which requires a specific approach in conceptual, aesthetic and technical terms. The images start out as ‘straight' shots, using large scale analogue cameras, and later, some of these are subjected to a meticulous process of digital alteration - a process that prompts Sérgio Mah, to wonder if photography, 'as a technical and artistic technique, is not also destined to pursue a certain kind of classical imagination.' A series of his stunning photographs are contained in this publication, produced between 2004 and 2008, including images that deal with the recurring themes of mountains and the Californian coast.
