Catala-Roca: Cuenca (Spanish Edition)

During the fifties, Catalá-Roca travelled incessantly through-out Spain on his Vespa, documenting an ancient country that was beginning to awake. For more than twenty years his social portraits produced a substantial and amazing collection of images of which a small part was eventually published in the mythical book, “Cuenca around 1956”. Now, fifty years later this publication provides a fresh perspective on both that book and era. Presented here is a sizeable collection of both well and lesser-known, black and white photographs that document figures from the era of Ortega and Luis Miguel Dominguín, the oppressive environment from the period and the tension between tradition and modernity.
