Alberto Garcia Alix: The Closest I Was To Paradise

Garcia-Alix chose this collection of photographs, capturing many years of visits to Formentera in the Balearic Islands. In his title essay, Garcia-Alix writes passionately of the island which has played such a pivotal role in his life and work; a treasured place where he has loved, lost and found himself. As always with Garcia-Alix's images, the apparent freedom and hedonism of the friends, locals and lovers he photographs is blended with an atmosphere of sadness and vulnerability, while abstract shots of the island's woods, skies and streets reveal a new lyricism and sense of natural wonder.
