To the Celt, it was the evil eye, symbolic of ill-will and envy. Sometimes the eye represents all-seeing divinity, knowledge, protection and stability. It can be the symbol of the male-female androgyne or of the solar door that gives access to the celestial regions. At other times, however, it can be the symbol of evil, as with the Cyclops.
