The second volume in Helmut Gernsheim's revision of his classic The History of Photography, first published in 1955, centers on the era of the wet-collodion photograph, when photography evolved into an increasingly important scientific and artistic discipline. The great photographers, Cameron, Nadar, Muybridge, Watkins, Brady and Frith all did major work during this time. Gernsheim's expanded text is the most thorough to be published on this early history of photography.
