Thomas Demand

Originally trained as a sculptor, Demand has utilized photography as a means of exploring pure form. His life-size sets constructed out of paper and cardboard are, at first glance, believable, aside from their sterility. But upon further study, the nature of the work comes through, raising intriguing questions of form, space, and light. A new star of the contemporary photography scene, to be sure.
